Uganda - Karambi
Uganda - Karambi
A naturally processed coffee from the Rwenzori mountains, located on the south-western border of Uganda. It is a coffee which is sweet, with light acidity and moderate body. It is very easy to drink and works with or without milk. We believe it is best drunk as a filter coffee. It has origin flavours of dried fruits. Overall, our impression is that this is a sweet and balanced coffee.

Coffee Description
Agri Evolve have this to say about their Buzira coffee: “in the foothills of the Rwenzoris in western Uganda, farmers traditionally process their coffee using the Natural method. The coffee is harvested and dried in the open before being hulled. The green coffee is known locally as ‘Drugar’. Agri Evolve buy the very best available, paying the farmers promptly at a high market rate. The dry coffee beans are then cleaned and processed to a high standard using modern machinery in our new Coffee Station”. Drugar stands for dry (as opposed to washed), Ugandan, arabica.
SUPPLIER
Agri Evolve was established in 2016. It is a profit for purpose business which employs approximately 80 staff. Since 2016 Agri Evolve has worked to increase the quality and therefore the value of coffee in the Rwenzori region. Agri Evolve improved coffee quality by using their experience and knowledge to select better cherries; they conducted in-house processing, and have since built washing stations; and the agronomists at Agri Evolve have helped educate farmers to improve their crops in the field. The improvement of the quality of the coffee has increased the price of the coffee cherries, which Agri Evolve purchase directly from the local farmers, meaning farmers have increased their income from coffee production. Agri Evolve also contribute 40p per bag of coffee sold in the UK to a development fund, the ACE 2030, which emphasises the link between agriculture, community and the environment. Thus far, the money has contributed to: a programme of long-term tree planting; the implementation of energy efficient stoves within the local community; the construction of clean water infrastructure; improvements in agricultural practices, which have increased sector resilience and sustainability; and the creation of a Village Saving and Loans Associations, which help communities manage money more effectively.
