Hermanos Zambrano - Venezuela
Hermanos Zambrano - Venezuela
Four hours from the capital along the winding mountain roads of southern Merida State is where you can discover the raw beauty of Canaguá; the home of these beans. A coffee growers paradise, it is Don Arsenio Zambrano who has watched over, worked and educated people on this land for over 70+ years - through all manner of trials and tribulations - which somehow seeps into this beans flavour. With changes in Law that has made the farming and exportation of coffee near impossible since 2001, it is the younger generations of Don Arsenio's family, the Zambrano Brothers (the namesake of these beans), that have weathered the storm and fought for this stunning, classical coffee to reach the world outside of Venezuela through cooperatives and education - always paying homage to those that came before them as they went. To them, we give thanks for this smooth and mellow brew, enjoyed in any fashion, anywhere.
Origin: Venezuela, Loma del Ovejo- Canaguá, Mérida
The farm is is situated in stunning mountains of Merida state, known for their beauty and simplicity. Coffee is often grown on sloping terrain providing optimal natural drainage, and is interspersed with shading trees of plantain and avocado. Many traditional coffee cultivation methods are still used here, with farmers making use of the environment around them; this combined with further education from cooperatives established by the Zambrano's have led to the higher quality speciality beans, like the ones we are lucky to have here. Because of many factors that we have detailed in our blogs 'The Maracaibos Chronicles', Venezuelan coffee farmers are currently unable to obtain any international certifications.
