Hunbatz is sourced from a collection of small coffee producers in the northwestern highlands of Guatemala, specifically in the Cuilco region of Huehuetenango. Caribbean Goods have this to say about their coffee: “our coffee beans from Guatemala represent the pinnacle of quality. Our beans are nurtured by the ideal climate and volcanic soil, resulting in a cup of coffee that is truly exceptional. Each bean is handpicked, sun dried, and carefully filtered ensuring that only the finest coffee cherries make it into your cup. Our commitment to sustainability means that we support local farmers who employ eco-friendly cultivation methods. With each sip, you’ll experience the unique taste of this region’s terroir, a true testament to the artistry of coffee.”
Caribbean Goods import green coffee from Guatemala to the UK. Caribbean Goods describe their primary goal as being to “promote completely transparent trading, ensuring truly ethical coffee.” They achieve this by buying directly from farmers and paying them a better price than if an intermediary was used. “Caribbean Goods was founded with the dream of making coffee farming in Guatemala fair for the hardworking farmers who produce it”. CarribeanGoods operate a tree planting scheme and have inested in several green initiatives. Some of the farmers Carribean Goods work with utilize innovative sustainable practices, like “using vermicompost rather than traditional fertilizers, keeping the endemic trees of the region rather than removing them, planting specific trees to create a shadow for coffee, and sing water treatment plants to lower the PH of water after washing the coffee”.
