Finca Medina -Guatemala -
Established in 1842, Finca Medina, spanning 100 hectares, lies at the foothills of the Agua volcano near Antigua, Guatemala City. Merging modern technology with traditional methods, the farm specializes in producing high-quality Antigua coffee. Rigorous laboratory assessments guarantee traceability, quality, fragrance, aroma, flavor, balance, sweetness, and diverse cup profiles.
Dedicated to sustainability, the farm boasts a state-of-the-art water treatment plant. Employing anaerobic, facultative, and wastewater pond systems, the plant, coated with a protective membrane, aims to pioneer water cleaning in coffee processing. It targets meeting stringent parameters in BOD and QOD indices, striving for eco-friendly water reuse.
Finca Medina's commitment extends to organic compost production. Utilizing coffee pulp and 30% of the water from the wet coffee processing stage, a specialized compost machine turns and aerates the mixture, incorporating wooden sticks, leaves, and natural farm by-products. This process enriches the compost, contributing to a closed-loop system.
Effluents from coffee processing nourish compost beds, promoting rehydration and introducing beneficial bacteria and enzymes. Once matured, the compost becomes organic fertilizer for coffee trees, completing a sustainable cycle that recycles and reuses waste in an environmentally friendly manner. Notably, the coffee sourced follows direct trade routes, fostering a strong partnership with Javier, a Guatemalan green coffee importer.
